About us
We are based on the south coast of Britain and send the warmest greetings (actually rather soggy ones at the moment!) to anyone reading this. Wherever you are, you could not be more welcome.
We came up with our name (Picnic Publishing) when one of our children’s illustrators (Caroline), one of our photographers (Iain) and one of our writers (Corinne) picnicked on Brighton beach. It is of course no more than coincidence that other than the fact all involved in Picnic (about twenty of us now, and counting) love books, they like picnics too. To return to the subject of picnics: When we (actually, Sarah, another of Picnic’s children’s illustrators) checked on picnic locations with the British Tourist Authority, we were amazed to discover there was no collated information on the best picnic spots in Britain. Therefore, we assumed this could go for the rest of the world too.
So we set up this website - and, having obtained the necessary British permissions - have started it off with the few picnic sites in Britain we could gather off google.
The rest is up to you - please send us your picnic ideas from anywhere in the world . . .
Along with locations, recipes and memories, firm information would be very useful - e.g. whether barbeques are allowed on beaches. Also, without sounding pious, could you let us have the necessary instructions re. protection of others or the environment.
For example, most picnickers on Brighton beach or Hove Lawns - where Picnic Publishing is based - are incredibly responsible. Others are not. As a result, young children and animals have been injured by negligently discarded disposable bar-b-qs thrown away with embers still burning . . .
